Vinyl fences look great until you need to attach something to them. Drilling cracks the panels and voids many fence warranties. The good news: a small solar light does not need screws on vinyl. Here is the no-drill method we recommend.
What you need
- Your ALPAYESI solar mandala light (the 3M adhesive pads are already in the box).
- Rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth.
- A dry day above 50°F (10°C) so the adhesive can cure.
Step by step
- Pick the spot. Hold the light against the fence at dusk and look at where the pattern lands. 6–12 inches from the surface it projects onto gives the widest mandala. Make sure the solar panel on top will get 6–8 hours of sun.
- Clean the surface. Wipe the vinyl with rubbing alcohol and let it dry. Dust and pollen are the main reason adhesive fails.
- Apply the pad. Press the 3M pad onto the back of the light's mounting bracket, then peel the second liner.
- Press for 30 seconds. Firm, even pressure matters more than force.
- Wait 24 hours. The adhesive reaches full strength after a day. Do not hang the light or bump it before then.
- Unlock and charge. Lift the lid, slide the switch to ON and let the light charge in full sun for a day before the first night.
Wood, posts and masonry
On wood fences, posts, deck rails and brick, use the screws and wall anchors in the box instead. They hold better in wind and through freeze–thaw cycles.
Two things to avoid
- Do not mount on textured or chalky vinyl; the pad only grips smooth surfaces.
- Do not mount under a gutter drip line. IP54 handles rain and snow, but a constant stream of water will shorten the life of any outdoor light.
Each ALPAYESI light measures 3.35 in across and weighs very little, which is exactly why the pad method works. Two to six of them along a fence line turn a plain vinyl panel into light art after dark.
